"I have seen Caroline at work for 10 years. She has extensive experience of working with Spanish stallions (for more than twice as long as this) and their riders, both training and teaching. What makes her excellent in my view is her sensitivity to both horse and rider. She works in a kind and encouraging manner and I have seen her tame nervous and difficult, young, quirky horses into sensible rides. Where other people might use force and harsher bits she works patiently both on the ground and in the saddle with a sign of improvement in 2 weeks. She is familiar with the paces of Spanish horses and their weaknesses and works them through their backs, developing the right muscles and straightness. She helps the riders to recognise and "feel" and develop their own balance and centredness. She trains Spanish walk, piaffe and passage at the appropriate times in the horse's development.
In my own case I have noticed she is particularly good on psychology. When I bought a magnificent Spanish stallion she gave me lessons everyday for a fortnight to prepare me to ride the Functionality test. My horse was very capable but I was not! She came to the BAPSH show with me and I was thrilled that we came fifth in stiff competition. Last year I sent her a young horse of 6 who needed bringing on and exposure to new situations. I felt he was always trying to get me off on the wall on one rein and I later realised that I was so nervous that I could not ride him straight. After training him for 6 weeks or so, she asked me to ride him without rein contact at all until within a few weeks I could ride him with a light contact in a quadrille with 3 other horses. This was a transformation in ability and confidence for me.
I have seen her teach a complete beginner with a dream of riding her own stallion, to ride that stallion in a competent and balanced manner with the horse being ridden rounded. She has her own young horses and they grow up with confidence and good manners with a unique form of training, de sensitising them to umbrellas and balloons and so on. I have also witnessed her take on a mature and explosive horse no -one else wanted to ride and develop into a three times winner of champion gelding at BAPSH. The proof is in the pudding!"
